Almost every Dutch person knows what Hyves is. Still some of you don’t even know what I’m talking about.
Hyves is a very popular Dutch social network. You can place pictures, videos or music on your profile. It can be compared to MySpace, Facebook or Twitter. But where these networks go international Hyves only reaches out to the Dutch.
I’m also an active Hyver. I created my profile three years ago and since then I’m addicted to Hyves. I don’t know if you can call it a real addiction but I check my profile everyday; it has become a daily habit. I even got the appartment where I live in via an advertisement on Hyves!
I have 555 ”friends” on Hyves. I can imagine you thinking: 555 friends!? But ofcourse, they aren’t my real friends. Some of them are but most of them I don’t even know that well! The fun thing about Hyves is you can maintain contact with people you normally wouldn’t talk to. Especially the people in your past; people you know from kindergarden, vacations or clubbing. I even found an old friend of mine who I have not seen in 10 years! The only thing about Hyves is it isn’t familiar in international countries. I’m forced to have another account on Facebook where I can have contact with my foreign friends.
But don’t hesitate and just try out Hyves!
